Frequently asked questions

Barking Spiders was designed for family gatherings, friendly soirées, and tea parties in need of a little extra spark. Play with young and old alike—just don’t be surprised if Grandma leaves everyone in stitches.

What in Her Majesty’s name is Barking Spiders?

Barking Spiders is a delightfully cheeky card game, crafted by two brothers who bravely stared into the abyss of boredom and emerged with something infinitely more amusing—a game of manners, movement, and mirth. Imagine Phase 10 colliding with Gin Rummy, but set in an alternate universe where euphemisms reign supreme and the word “fart” is never spoken aloud.

Is Barking Spiders appropriate for families with delicate sensibilities?

Absolutely. While the gameplay dances around the subject of “movements,” it does so with all the charm of a Victorian parlor—innuendo is delivered with a knowing wink, never a blush. Tasteless words are strictly forbidden, replaced by artful metaphors and sly references that leave everyone giggling and no one offended.

How many players can join the gaseous gala?

Barking Spiders is best enjoyed in groups of 2 to 8 refined individuals (or more, if one is feeling daring and has an extra pack on hand). We here have played with 10 players with one loaf (deck) and we just had to re-shuffle the Waste Pile a few times. The fun multiplies exponentially with every additional participant.

What is a “movement,” and should I be worried?

Movements are simply combinations of special Gas, Mass, and Wild Cards, assembled in highbrow patterns worthy of a Renaissance tapestry. Their titles (such as “anaconda” or “ninja”) refer to legendary feats of human fortitude, never the indelicate realities they honor.

How does the game end?

You can stop at any time, noting the winner would be the one with the most Brown Biscuits. The official end, however comes when a player completes all 5 movements AND "drops their kids off at the pool", or gets rid of all their cards.

How do I tell the difference between Gas and Mass cards?

Masseous Cards are marked with a log icon and have a thicker border. Gaseous Cards, marked with a fog icon, and have thinner borders.

What do the Feller Cards do?

Feller cards are dark brown cards that The Expeller, The Smeller, and The Repeller. They add variety to the game by disrupting the turn flow, exchanging cards, and expelling players from a round.
